    Julia Fischer (violin), Henri Bonamy

With this edition, Julia Fischer sets a new standard for Ysaÿe. This cycle has never been heard with such expressive truthfulness and technical flawlessness. It is a referential thing in purely musical terms. Added to this is brilliant sound engineering and a rarely flawless pressing quality.

    Beethoven: Violin Concerto
For her debut concerto album, violinist Veronika Eberle revisits a work that has endured more than two centuries, and shares a fresh interpretation featuring new cadenzas by composer Jörg Widmann.

Not only is Beethoven’s Violin Concerto a particular favourite of Veronika, it has been central to her career to date—most notably alongside Sir Simon Rattle, who has been Veronika’s long-time supporter and collaborator. When she was just 16, Sir Simon introduced her at the 2006 Salzburg Easter Festival, where she performed this very concerto to a packed Salzburg Festpielhaus.

On this album, the pair reunite to bring this sublime masterpiece to life, and to celebrate the work that first brought Veronika to international attention.

Cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and pianist Benjamin Britten perform Sonatas by Franz Schubert and Frank Bridge.

“Few people will be able to resist the big climax when bowed with the intensity Rostropovich brings to it (the Bridge) here… It is supremely beautiful playing from both cellist and pianist (in the Schubert), with never a dead note in even the most incidental bit of figuration, and I suppose we really ought to be grateful that such a humble (albeit charming) little work comes in for so much love. The engineering is superb: the sound is glorious, and so true to life that if you shut your eyes you can imagine the players in your own room.” — Gramophone

Audiophile 180g Virgin Vinyl Cut at Emil Berliner Studio! Pressed at Pallas in Germany! Mastered from the Original Masters of Universal Music!

Violinist Kyung Wha Chung & pianist Phillip Moll perform compositional works by Brahms, Kreisler and Elgar.

Korean violinist Kyung-wha Chung has been widely acclaimed both by critics and audiences.

Chung's career was at its peak during the '70s and '80s being ranked alongside the great violinists Pinchas Zukerman and Itzhak Perlman.

She became one of the most characterful and best-loved violinists in the world. The total involvement she conveys comes not just from the actual notes but from her physical stance, revealing her love of the music and of the violin in every movement of muscle. Yet today, even when faced with her most spectacular recording of showpiece concertos, she will deny that she is a virtuoso. What she means is that technique is merely incidental to her communication through music. This dislike of showing off for its own sake accounts for her reluctance to concentrate on 'firework' pieces in this selection, preferring instead pieces she loves for other reasons.

Beethoven Pastoral – Symphony No. 6

Orchestra of the 18th Century, Frans Bruggen

The Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century is one of the most prominent period instrument orchestras in the world. The musicians play internationally in leading (chamber) music ensembles and meet several times a year for performances of iconic and lesser-known repertoire. In the early 1980s, under the direction of legendary conductor and early music specialist Frans Bruggen, the orchestra achieved world fame by performing major symphonic works on original instruments and in a historically informed manner. In 2011, the orchestra performed all of Beethoven’s symphonies in concert. These concerts were released on CD as live recordings on the Glossa label and met with great enthusiasm. Beethoven’s 6th Symphony ‘Pastorale’ from these legendary recordings is now being released on LP for the first time.
